Dr. Moses Rudolph Knapp (1830-1917) was born in Centre County, PA, 4th son of Abram Phelps and Mary Worrell Knapp, and grandson of Captain Abijah Knapp who served in the Revolutionary War.
When he was 5 years, he moved to Montgomery Square in Montgomery County, PA. At age 19, he began studying medicine under Dr. John L. Foulke in Gwynedd, PA. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Medicine and Surgery in 1854. For 18 months, Dr. Knapp practiced medicine in Charleston, SC.
His former mentor Dr. John L. Foulke retired in 1857, and Dr. Knapp took over his practice in Gwynedd, and continued until his failed health in 1915. He engaged in the practice for 61 years!
Dr. Knapp descended from an old colonial family who originally came from Suffolk, England, and settled in New England in 1532.
He married Annie Acuff of Gwynedd, and had one son: Kenneth.
His home was replaced by a modern developed house.
