Fairmount Water Works- Philadelphia, PA

ARCH 3111: Introduction to Historic Preservation- Temple University

Professor Dennis Playdon

Individual students will pursue a single project for the semester. Each

student will select a building from the suggested list, but may also

propose another choice. The water works was built along the Schuylkill

River after the yellow fever epidemic. Architect and engineer Frederick

Graff designed the exterior of the water works with the style of

Greek/Roman revival architecture to hide the engineer mechanism and

to show the beauty of the overall water works.
